Back again after a long absence. I got to thinking about doing some more scanning of my old mags collection as well as other magazines collections and found that it's still not easy. At least with mags that are stapled and not glued, you can take the mags apart by removing the staples and run them through a scanner with an auto document feeder, then reassemble the mag electronically with the right software. But many mags are glued spines and that will present problems, especially on images that cross 2 pages like centerfolds. Books at least can be scanned with DIY book scanners that can be cheaply made and use digital cameras as the scanner. Look here for insight on how to do just that:

Any thoughts? How about posters? Anyone have to do extremely large size images? I have a lot of posters I want to scan and digital cameras seem to be the best option. Print shops could also do them on their equipment but the cost would be horrendous. I may look into seeing if the local college or university has such equipment or the local libraries as well.
